Activities/Attractions: Merida is the largest city on the Yucatan Peninsula and it attracts visitors interested in historic sightseeing, shopping for Mayan art and relaxing. On Sundays, the streets around the Zocalo are closed to cars and come alive with music and artisans selling their wares.
Though a bustling city of about 700,000, Merida retains its colonial charm and has a laid-back tempo that delights visitors. It makes a good base from which to explore the Mayan archaeological sites of Chichen-Itza and Uxmal.
Pink flamingo sanctuaries and swimmable crystal-clear cenotes (sinkholes) are some natural attractions that are easily accessible from Merida. Some of the cenotes are found in caves with centuries-old stalactite formations. The emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico lap at beaches just thirty minutes away from Angeles De Merida.
"We had a wonderful, relaxing time. Mele arranged the trips to the pyramids at Uxmal, the Hacienda at Yaxcopoil, and the Sunday market in Merida. He was a great host! Everyone on your staff (including Adriano, Angel, and Christian) made us feel welcome and comfortable during our entire stay at Angeles de Merida."
"We had a fabulous week, thanks to the magnificent colonial home and the amazing services offered by John, including complete delicious breakfasts and a hospitality hour with wine and snacks. A huge bonus is the help provided by John's concierge, Mele, who provided us with information, tickets, and transportation which filled our week with the wonders of Merida, as well as Chichen Itza and Celestun."
"Thanks to Angeles de Merida for welcoming me to Merida. Your hospitality made a difference to my first visit to the Yucatan. Great accommodations and excellent service. I am planning to return."
"This was by far the BEST vacation we have ever taken. Count on us to return again and again. We were only there for 6 days, but you all instantly made us feel like part of the family. John, Jose, Mele, Adrian, and Blanca ... you're the greatest!"
"We have had a wonderful time here. You boys think of everything. Thank you and hasta la vista."
"Thank you all for the great hospitality. Our stay here has been the best. Our wedding was dream-like. Thanks."
