Activities/Attractions: Right in the village of Biron you can visit the superb Chateau de Biron, once the 4th barony in the Périgord, the church of the castle which was rebuilt at the very end of the 15th century and where the priests living at Le Prieuré started officiating on April 8, 1515. A little further ahead you can visits several of the best preserved medieval towns in the Dordogne, the Chateau de Bonaguil, one of the largest remaining fortified castle in France, Chateau de Beynac, Chateau de Castelnaut, Chateau des Milandes (which once belonged to Josephine Baker), and many more.

You can also discover the prehistoric caves of Lascaux and Fond de Gaume (the only cave still opened to the public with polychrome paintings). The marvelously preserved town of Sarlat is just an hour away, as well as the cliff-hanging town of Roque Gageac. If tired of visiting historic sites, you can switch to checking out the many vineyards in the area and sample their wines. The Bergerac region makes delicious reds, dry and sweet wines and tastings are usually free. In the evenings, relax at the Prieure on the terrace, then walk up to the Auberge du Chateau and enjoy your meal right under the walls of the Chateau de Biron.

"The hotel is in an old building that has been beautifully and sensitively restored. There are wooden floors, high ceilings, beams, beautiful furniture, fireplaces, a truly amazing place. The owner Elizabeth is very friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. The breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit salad, croissants and home made jam. Our room was enormous, I felt like a princess staying there. The rooms do not have televisions, mini bars etc but that would spoil some of the charm anyway. The only slight drawback is that the wooden floors do creak so you cannot have a lie in if your neighbour is already up in the morning. I loved it and would have loved to stay more than one night."

"We just came from an idyllic stay at the Prieure de Biron, now run by the kind and very gracious Elizabeth, who is French but spent many years in the US, so communications were no problem. To all the wonderful comments made previously, I can only say that the Prieure is even better now, with a beautiful new kitchen (in the off season Elisabeth will do “table d'hôtes” meals by request- we ate quite well in the restaurant a few steps away). Even in August when the Dordogne is chock a block with tourists, it's an oasis of calm, with stunning views over the meadows; we ate our delicious breakfasts (fruit salad, warm croissants) al fresco and at night watched the meteor showers from the back garden- Biron is so tiny under its enormous chateau there is next to no light pollution. Altogether an enchanting stay!"

"Being a guest at Le Prieure du Chateau de Biron for 3 nights was a lovely way to become acquainted with the Dordogne. We stayed in the Chantre room and it was all we could have wanted ... a comfortable bed, a small desk for our laptop, linen bedding, a beautiful view from the window and all the amenities in the bed and bath that one would need… Elisabeth was very warm and welcoming, and assisted us in any way we needed during our stay. We found her suggestions about driving routes and sights to see really let us be on our own personal "back roads" tour, discovering hidden gems in the area… If you are considering exploring this area, we can say without hesitation that we absolutely loved Biron, the Dordogne and staying in the priory - and would love to return!"
