Activities/Attractions: The Dordogne region of South-West France is one of the most beautiful and popular regions of France. Chateaux, forests and gardens, beautiful medieval towns and villages, unspoilt countryside, rivers and caves are just some of the reasons why the region has been attracting visitors for many years.

There are many 'famous sights' in the Dordogne, including: Lascaux caves; Marqueyssac Gardens; medieval Sarlat; Chateau Castelnaud; prehistoric caves in the Vezere Valley, etc. Yet it is the places outside these 'hot-spots' that will stay longest in your memory - the scenery, the peace, the coffee in a small cafe, the picnic next to a stream.

Whatever your interests, the Dordogne will suit you. The scenery is magical, and just driving around on the tortuous country lanes through the forest and over the hills and along the rivers is pure pleasure. The markets are some of the finest in France, with many designated as "marches de France." The Dordogne is rich in layer upon layer of history, too. There are more than 150 prehistoric sites along the Vezere river alone.

  • St. Antoine de Breuilh was created in 1825 when the villages of St Aulaye and Breuilh joined together
  • Léonce Faure, the agricultural engineer, comes from St Antoine de Breuilh
  • The village has an old port with a typical quayside and river-front houses
  • The moat and fortifications of the 15th and 18th century Château de St Aulaye still exist
  • A Madonna set in a wall keeps guard over the Dordogne and the boatmen asked for her protection while they were on the river

"You do not need to be Marco Polo to find the Bastide, but some experience in orienteering will come in handy whilst you search the countryside of Bergerac. Kiek has arranged signs at every crossroads so do not lose heart as you zero in because the welcome she will give you is worth the effort. A warm smile and a generous helping of hospitality awaits you. The recently renovated Bastide provides an eclectic mix of Perigordian style and New York chic. The silence is only punctuated by laughter and you are free to bask in the atmosphere of the Bergerac vines that surround the property. The perfect destination for a quiet rest from the hustle and bustle of everyday life."

"Thank you so much for your hospitality and great care. The B&B is very romantic and charming. Everything has been thought of; the rooms are spacious, the beds make you want to sleep 12 hours a day and drinks and dinner were waiting for us after a very long journey. The views are spectacular and you really wind down here in the hostess' great care. We will definitely be back!"
