Activities/Attractions: The Isle of Sheppey is a small island off the North Kent coast and is approximately 9 miles long by 5 miles wide. It is connected to the mainland by two bridges. The Sheppey Crossing was opened in July 2006 and is the island's first fixed link with the mainland. The old Kingsferry Bridge is a lifting bridge, it is still in use and the railway line also crosses this bridge. There are traditional seaside towns on the island, such as Leysdown and Sheerness and there are the heritage towns of Queenborough and Blue Town which are rich in cultural heritage.

For visits to London (50 miles), Canterbury (30 miles), Rochester (20 Miles) & Maidstone (20 miles), there are good  road links to the motorway system with two bridges linking us to the mainland. There is also a mainline railway from Sittingbourne (10 miles) to the centre of London with a connecting line from Sheerness.

The nearest town is Sheerness (6 miles) where there is a selection of  shops & good supermarkets, an indoor swimming pool and a sports complex. There are beaches at Minster Lees, Sheerness and Shellness with certain areas being very good for fishing.

For bird watching or just an enjoyable walk in the countryside, you may wish to visit the Elmley Marshes Nature Reserve, run by Elmley Conservation Trust, where many species of birds may be seen, both common and rare. Among those found on the reserve are  populations of Harriers, Golden Plover, Short-Eared Owls, Avocet, Egret, Heron, Green Plover and at dawn and dusk spectacular amounts of  wildfowl.
