Activities/Attractions: The Bay of Islands features in the top 12 out of 115 worldwide travel destinations ranked by the National Geographic magazine. The Bay enjoys a sub-tropical climate. A typical summer has long spells of sunshine, warm balmy evenings and runs from November to early April, January and February being the hottest months. Winters are mostly mild.

Much of the Bay's hundreds of miles of coastline remain unspoiled, an aquatic paradise, a truly amazing playground teeming with wildlife and natural wonders to be shared and enjoyed by the whole world. The area is rich in history, being favoured for pre-European Maori settlement, the site of some of New Zealand's earliest European settlement and of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, the founding document of our modern nation.

Paihia offers tonnes of different attractions for visitors. From relaxing at the beach to trips out to various islands, from exploring nearby Russell, the first capital of New Zealand, to delving into New Zealand's historical past at Waitangi. Let our friendly tour desk individually organise any of the Bays special activities.

  • Dolphin/whale watching
  • Big game and sport fishing
  • Bay of Islands cruises
  • Cape Reinga coach tours
  • Wealth of early New Zealand history
  • Safe swimming beaches
  • 1 km to historic Waitangi & Waitangi Golf Course

"The motel has a fantastic view of the bay looking out directly over to Russell. The rooms get heaps of sun throughout the day, and we often sat on the huge balconies eating breakfast each morning. Also, all rooms have full kitchen and cooking facilities which is great if you want to save money from eating out all the time. Definitely looking forward to retuning to the Bay View Motel and would recommend to anyone."

"I give the owner, Rose, 110% for effort and friendly service. She went out of her way to assist with advice about what to do in the township and where to go in the wider Bay area. Nothing was a bother, all enquiries met with a friendly smile. The room had a great view of the Bay and was spacious and warm, with sun morning and afternoon. The cleaning service was unobtrusive but very thorough. A top base for spending time in the Bay of Islands and one I will certainly look to stay in again."

"Very good motel, we had front seaview. Well equipped, flat screen TV and very clean. Rose the owner is very helpful."

"We have just experienced the most wonderful few days at the Bayview Motel at Paihia. What a magnificent spot! The view is world-class, the units are absolutely spotless, there are unlimited activities within walking distance of the motel, and if you can have a break away which is totally relaxing as well as totally exciting, then we've just had it! But as everyone who has ever stayed in a motel knows, you can have the most wonderful setting, but if the hospitality is second-class, so is the holiday. Rose, at the Bayview couldn't have been more friendly and helpful."

"We had a great bay-view studio at the Bay View. The upstairs front rooms are really very nice for a motel-style property with views of the harbor, ferries and all of the islands. As everyone mentioned, Rose is the star of the show and she couldn't have been more pleasant and accommodating."

"We enjoyed a wonderful week staying at this superbly located motel. The accommodation was spacious and beautifully maintained. Rose the host was absolutely fantastic as nothing was too much trouble to make our stay happy, fun and memorable. The views from the motel are stunning. Our recommendation speaks for itself as we have booked to return."

"Rose, the owner & manager of Bayview Motel is one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet! Neat, clean & comfy with a big balcony and did I mention the gorgeous view? All the doors are sliding doors, so they don't take up precious space - very clever design! We were there 4 busy days & 3 nights and truly hated to leave."
