Activities/Attractions: Cheltenham has been welcoming visitors for almost 300 years, ever since the discovery of the first natural spring led to the development of the elegant spa town of today. It is a unique and historic town in the county of Gloucestershire with a population of 109,800 (48,164 households). Cheltenham is also a cultural centre hosting an impressive calendar of international festivals and special events.

Cheltenham began as an Anglo-Saxon village over 1200 years ago. In 1226 it became a market town, which was the basis of its economy until the 18 century, when its medicinal waters were discovered in a field to the south of the town, where Cheltenham Ladies’ College now stands. These were regarded as beneficial for a whole range of illnesses and by the late 18 century the town was one of England’s leading spas.

Visitors from all round the world flock to Cheltenham for the International Festival of Literature and Music, and the town is the western gateway to the Cotswolds. The principle street of Cheltenham is the Promenade with its fine regency terraces and Neptune Fountain.

Cheltenham is world famous for its horse racing course at Prestbury Park and the main hurdles event being the Gold Cup National Hunt Festival week in March.

"A unique and surprisingly phenomenal experience to come to a different country and stay with total strangers who almost instantly become close friends and almost family members who you haven't seen for only a short time. Beautiful meals and service well beyond expectations. The decor and relaxed atmosphere are without parallel.  It was sad to leave."
