Activities/Attractions: Beautiful Kosrae (pronounced Kosh-rye) is one of the island States of the Federated States of Micronesia, just a delightful boat ride north of the Equator. The FSM’s second largest island, Kosrae is a paradise for divers and adventurers alike, with the most beautiful white beaches in Micronesia.

Kosrae, called "The Sleeping Lady" because of the shape of one of its picturesque mountains is covered with dense tropical jungles and high volcanic peaks, with lush river valleys and spectacular views. The island is surrounded by very healthy fringing reefs teeming with splendidly colorful tropical fish feeding off the spectacular corals. Visibility exceeds 100'—perfect for spotting paddling sea turtles and large rays winging their way through the blue waters. The coral reefs, which slope steeply into the clear blue depths, are one of the great attractions of Kosrae. Equally attractive are its warm-hearted people. Visitors leave here with vivid memories and a yearning to return.

  • Kosrae remains an immaculate garden of flowers, citrus trees and rich, verdant greenery
  • Explore on foot or by car
  • Follow a guide up Mt. Oma to visit multiple cascading waterfalls
  • Go catacombing WWII Japanese caves hidden in the lush jungles of this island paradise
  • The nearby Visitors Center can advise you on many historical island aspects
  • From the Kosrae Nautilus Resort you can explore the 14th-century Lelu ruins. There are also tours to the Menke ruins
  • Also paddling through the winding mangrove channels in our kayaks is an experience not to be missed
  • Broad channels lead to lush inlets, where you can see all manner of fish, crabs, and perhaps even spot a large monitor lizard sunning in a tree
  • The mangrove trees themselves are lovely sights, often laden with large ferns

Should you want to be adventurous, or just relax by the pool or on the beach, the choice is yours. Kosrae is an unspoiled paradise waiting for you.

"Our second stay at the Nautilus was for three weeks' vacation in July 2006. We can't begin to express our delight with the resort, the staff, and especially Doug & Sally. The customer service, attention to detail, accommodations and grounds are outstanding. We were even treated to a completely customized wedding anniversary dinner organized by Sally, Leah & Doug. We kayaked the mangrove, took the circle island tour, snorkeled, hiked and swam with the dolphins. Kosrae and The Nautilus truly are very special places."

"We would like to thank everyone at the Nautilus Resort for a wonderful time in the real world. The grounds were extremely beautiful and peaceful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The pool was a really nice way to cool off after the Menke Ruins hike. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We are already planning our next visit. Take care and see you all real soon."

"Our experience in Kosrae was amazing, and was even better thanks to the wonderful hospitality and service of Doug, Sally and family. We stayed at the Kosrae Nautilus for 7 days and truly appreciated all the lovely accommodations provided by this family and their staff. From diving/snorkeling, to kayaking, to jungle hiking and more, Doug and Sally were able to easily connect us to any island activity we desired. Having also visited Chuuk and Pohnpei, we definitely loved the charm and innocence of Kosrae. Thank you so much to Doug, Sally, Adam, Leah and boys for sharing your wonderful piece of heaven with us!"

"The memories of being the only dive boat on the water, day after day and having the pods of dolphins great us on que, was something we have never experienced in many years of dive travel. Also hanging on to the dive ladder as you idled along with the dolphins allowing us to photograph them was a real experience. Joyce and I have traveled through many oceans and stayed in lots of different resorts. Our fondest memories at the Nautilus aside from the total professionalism, was the genuine family atmosphere that prevailed 24/7 along with the diving and snorkeling. The below water scenes of endless acres of huge Elkhorn coral and magnificent Plate coral, all providing a sanctuary for the schools of young sharks, spade fish, and barracuda, etc. With the superior visibility, snorkelers could enjoy these scenes at all times. Scuba gear just enhanced the views and made for excellent photography. Thank you all so very much."

"If you want to spend some time on a very remote and peaceful place in this world, Kosrae and the Nautilus Resort is the place for you. And if corals are your thing then you have to come to Kosrae. We've never seen so many and beautiful corals. There're also some nice drift-dives and if you're lucky you can spot some sharks and eagle-rays. Doug and his staff are very friendly and will do everything to make your stay an unforgettable one. "Dear Doug and Sally Beitz, thank you for your kindness and making arrangements so we were able to visit the places we came to see. We went to ruins about the Second World War, Japanese Caves, a Memorial Tower that was built by Friendship Association of Kosrae and Japan, and other places. We hope to go to the mountain, waterfalls and river if we visit again."

"We had a wonderful stay with Doug and Sally. The hotel is well maintained and very comfortable. Doug and Sally are outstanding hosts/owners. They saw to all of our needs from the time we checked in until our departure. In addition to everything else, Doug was our guide for 8 great dives. We have dove all over Micronesia over the last several years and Kosrae is one of the best. The reefs are beautiful and extremely healthy. I would highly recommend a stay at the Kosrae Nautilus. The hosts and staff are truly outstanding. The dining is very good and prices are reasonable (cheap compared to some other destinations !). We were the only divers on the boat and selected where we wanted to dive. Being able to dive our computers and getting an hour or more on each dive is great. If you are considering a trip to Micronesia, don't miss Kosrae. For a stay with some of the best people in the business, stay with Doug and Sally at the Kosrae Nautilus!"

"My wife and I would like to thank you for making our stay on Kosrae very enjoyable. Your hotel is the best place to stay on the island. Our room was comfortable and all we could want. The restaurant was very good and all the staff very friendly and helpful. We appreciated your suggestion for things to see and do on the island and your making the arrangements for renting a car. We would recommend the Kosrae Nautilus Hotel to anyone visiting Kosrae.

"We've traveled to over 25 countries and the island of Kosrae has to be one of our favourites. It's stunningly beautiful and the locals are some of the friendliest you'll find anywhere. We like to surf, hike and get adventurous. It was a real treat being able to enjoy these pursuits in a paradise that is not yet spoilt by tourism. There's just enough services to keep you happy but hardly any other tourists around. Places like this are special to us. And Doug and Sally from Nautilus are the perfect hosts. We really enjoyed our time there and hope to get back soon."

"We spent 8 days diving on Kosrae and the coral is some of the best we've seen anywhere. The Kosrae Nautilus Resort is very comfortable with spacious, air conditioned rooms, well kept grounds, and a reasonably priced restaurant with very good food. We thought the dive operation was well run and the dock was only a few minutes from the hotel. We recommend Kosrae and the Nautilus Resort to anyone interested in diving in this area."
