Well, that's how the Victorians ate it, and I happened to be staying in a particularly handsome specimen of 19th-century homestead. Stafford Place is tucked away in new olive groves near Mapua, beautifully restored to its original splendour. As the only guest (the owners, Bob and Sally Livingston, only host one party of up to three guests at a time), I had a claret-walled living room to myself, as well as a high-ceilinged bedroom and an enormous bathroom with a clawfoot bath, seemingly as deep as the ocean. To describe such luxury as a 'bed and breakfast' seems misleading, though literally true." - Next Magazine |
