"Seafood for breakfast? Well, that's how the Victorians ate it, and I happened to be staying in a particularly handsome specimen of 19th-century homestead. Stafford Place is tucked away in new olive groves near Mapua, beautifully restored to its original splendour. As the only guest (the owners, Bob and Sally Livingston, only host one party of up to three guests at a time), I had a claret-walled living room to myself, as well as a high-ceilinged bedroom and an enormous bathroom with a clawfoot bath, seemingly as deep as the ocean. General Information: Welcome to Stafford Place in Nelson, New Zealand ... a historic homestead with modern comforts located on the picturesque Waimea Plains. We are located amongst vineyards and orchards, close to art galleries, glass blowing studios and potteries and only 5 minutes drive to Rabbit Island's 10 kms of beautiful sandy beach.

Built for Henry Redwood in 1866, Stafford Place is one of the Nelson region’s first English manor homesteads and offers superior accommodation with genuine warmth and hospitality. A retreat and a place of relaxation ... The perfect sanctuary from which to enjoy your complete independence and indulge in the pleasures the Nelson region has to offer.

• Today, as a home stay, Stafford Place accommodates exclusively only up to 3 people at a time on a single party basis to share this exceptional environment
  
• Guests are treated to all the comforts of modern living in a beautifully furnished and decorated homestead
  
• Stafford Place offers comfort and tradition in a park-like setting, just 25 minutes from Nelson City and 20 minutes to the airport
  
• There is one large, comfortable, authentic Victorian double room with king size bed. This has a luxurious and spacious en-suite complete with claw foot bath and large modern shower
  
• Next to it is a single room with original double brass bedstead, also cosy and comfortable. Both bedrooms are upstairs in the Stafford Place homestead
  
• Guests have the exclusive use of a large Victorian lounge, with library, TV, video, stereo and a log fire for cool nights. Phone, fax and email are all available
  
• Breakfasts on the verandah, looking out over the rose garden and surrounding trees. Home made bread, marmalade and jams, free range eggs, freshly squeezed juices and other good things
  
• We provide a guest pick up service from Nelson Airport, if required
