Activities/Attractions: Nelson offers an irresistible blend of lifestyle and stunning landscape at the top northwest corner of the South Island. From the northern edge of the Southern Alps across the fertile plains and out to a great sweep of beaches, Nelson is beautifully laid out under a generous sun that delivers New Zealandís highest sunshine hours.
The region itself has numerous opportunities for walking, mountain biking and watersports. The city is set between the attractions of the Maitai Valley and Tahunanui Beach. Richmond Forest Park is literally on its doorstep and Rabbit Island Beach a short drive away. The city provides a compact but varied shopping experience. The Saturday Outdoor Market is an essential and atmospheric stop for food, jewellery and crafts. Within a few kilometres of Stafford Place.

"Seafood for breakfast? Well, that's how the Victorians ate it, and I happened to be staying in a particularly handsome specimen of 19th-century homestead. Stafford Place is tucked away in new olive groves near Mapua, beautifully restored to its original splendour. As the only guest (the owners, Bob and Sally Livingston, only host one party of up to three guests at a time), I had a claret-walled living room to myself, as well as a high-ceilinged bedroom and an enormous bathroom with a clawfoot bath, seemingly as deep as the ocean. To describe such luxury as a 'bed and breakfast' seems misleading, though literally true." - Next Magazine
