Activities/Attractions: Once the wedding present of a queen, the preserved medieval town of Óbidos lying 100 km north of Lisbon is without doubt one of Portugal's most classic walled settlements. Walking the ramparts, visitors can enjoy views of windmills, vineyards and surrounding farmlands.
In the residential area below, narrow cobblestone streets are lined with whitewashed houses sporting terracotta roofs. The shops are piled high with local handicrafts, while in spring the town is ablaze with geraniums, morning glories and bougainvillaea.
"... the location, the warmth of the welcome and the Voyage of Discovery around the communal breakfast table. I have never seen or tried so many different dishes at breakfast all of them magnificent. It was a delight to feast one's eyes upon the table and try to decide which unusual dish to try next. A tip to all food lovers, get in to breakfast early otherwise you will miss out and be left to wonder as all the dish has gone ... The warmth of our welcome seemed most genuine and our hostess could not do enough to make sure our stay was enjoyable. Most certainly different from the norm, an establishment to be tried and enjoyed at least once on any visit to Portugal."
"The Casa d'Obidos is a wonderful inn located among farmland at the base of the walled village of Obidos. This 19th century manor house, completely renovated in 2000, offers six comfortable rooms with private baths. From the well-kept gardens, guests can look up at the village (a much better view that from atop the village ramparts) or relax by a small pool If the weather is bad (as it was in April), there is a common room with a billiards table, sofas, and satellite TV. Several restaurants are within a 10 minute walk from the inn. At approx. 85 EURO a night, this inn is one of the best bargains in Portugal."
"I took a break at Casa d´Obidos. Dońa Helena Sarmento slipped a glass of port wine into my hand the moment I stepped through the doorway. This sort of generosity was typical of the family and their kind attitude towards guests ... Casa d’Obidos serves what is arguably the best breakfast on the manor house tour: from five styles of bread, muffins, cakes, ham, cheese, fluffy scrambled eggs and bacon, cereals, freshly squeezed juice, kiwis, melon and gallons of just perfect coffee. What a set up for a game of golf. Which is what I had to do in order to offset breakfast."

"Casa d'Obidos is a beautiful homely manor house sitting in its own grounds outside the walls of Obidos. All rooms are individually furnished in a traditional style with rustic wooden floors throughout. All areas were immaculate and are looked after by the housekeeper who takes care to ensure your stay is enjoyable. Some port wine and local cakes awaited our arrival and we enjoyed them whilst playing a game of pool in the sitting room. Breakfast was a feast of fresh fruit, local hams and cheese, bread, conserves and cakes. Excellent restaurants are only a few minutes walk through the grounds of the house. At night you look up to the walled town of Obidos which is lit up and appears quite magical against the night sky. A truly peaceful setting disturbed only by the sounds of the cicadas. This house will appeal to those who appreciate the relaxed and dignified Portuguese way of life and who seek peace and quiet in a quality setting."
